Pre-K for All Program Quality Standards

The NYC Pre-K for All Program Quality Standards outline the NYCDOE’s vision for high-quality early childhood education, emphasizing family engagement, developmentally appropriate instruction, professional collaboration, and leadership. These standards align with the New York State Prekindergarten Foundation for the Common Core (PKFCC) and the DOE Framework for Great Schools, setting clear expectations across all pre-K settings. The NYCDOE Division of Early Childhood Education (DECE), along with educators, leaders, and families, will use these standards to enhance program quality and support positive outcomes for children.
Pre-K serves as a crucial foundation for young learners in NYC, marking the start of their educational journey with the NYCDOE. The Program Quality Standards foster collaboration between educators, early education centers, and elementary schools, ensuring smooth transitions to Kindergarten. Beginning in the 2015-2016 school year, the DECE will align professional learning and support with these standards to strengthen program quality. This initiative aims to unify efforts in early education, preparing all children for long-term academic success.
